Current Development Status
Rapid Growth in Export Scale
Used car exports have evolved from pilot projects to nationwide expansion, with regions showing rapid growth. In 2023, total used car exports reached 270,000 units. Driven by policies like scrapping-updating and trade-in-for-new in 2024, the market was further activated, with projections expecting to hit the 400,000-unit mark.
Expanding Export Markets
Chinese used cars are now exported to over 160 countries and regions, covering Southeast Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Russia, and other regions.
Increased Policy Support
In 2024, the Ministry of Commerce and four other departments announced the nationwide launch of used car export business, proposing requirements for organization, quality safety, international operation capabilities, supervision, and services to promote development. Local governments have also introduced supportive policies: Shanghai set up "special license quotas for used car exports," Zhejiang encouraged the construction of self-owned ro-ro fleets, and Guangdong supported the establishment of used car export bases.
